Winter 2021 Current Climate Change Research Seminar: A PCC/CHanGE Partnership

In Winter 2021 ATM S/ESS/OCEAN 586 was organized by LuAnne Thompson (OCEAN), Becky Alexander (PCC/ATM S) and Jeremy Hess (CHanGE/DEOHS)

The seminar was led by LuAnne Thompson (OCEAN) and met Tuesdays 3:30 – 4:30pm by Zoom.

The UW Program on Climate Change (PCC) and Center for Health and the Global Environment (CHanGE) organized a seminar for Winter 2021 that focused on the intersection of climate change and human health. The seminar brought together researchers in the two UW communities to discuss how climate change has and will impact human health. Conversations were wide ranging and included methods for projecting future climate and relevant exposures and impacts, including broader considerations related to determinants of health and wellbeing, and implications for climate change communication and management. Some sessions focused on cross-cutting issues and others on specific exposures and pathways. We hope that bringing together these two communities will facilitate collaboration in research and education on the intersection of climate change and health and develop a foundation for further joint educational programming. Each week consisted of two 30 min talks, one focused on fundamental climate change (PCC) and the other focused on health impacts (CHanGE). Talks were followed by Q&A. A link to presentations is below.

Participating graduate students registered for ATM S/ESS or OCEAN 586 (2 cr, GCeCS requirement) and undergraduates registered for ATM S/ESS or OCEAN 475 (3 cr, climate minor capstone requirement). Undergraduates in the 475 course met 3:30-4:50 pm on both Tuesday and Thursday via Zoom.
