Climate and Environmental Justice

Statement of Action

The PCC recognizes that climate change has disproportionate impacts on different communities, with inequalities ranging from the local level within cities to the global level between countries and regions. Efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change must consider these disproportionate impacts to ensure equitable development across all communities. To do this, we must strive to not only recognize the existence and effects of climate change-driven environmental injustice in our society, but we must actively work with the communities that are most affected. As an educational program within an educational institution, the PCC will move towards these goals by mindfully expanding Climate and Environmental Justice efforts within our learning initiatives and programs, including in the classroom, seminars, symposia, and our annual Summer Institute. Progress towards these goals is an ongoing process. See the list of links below for information on our recent activities, which will be updated regularly. Please join us as we actively fight for justice. We encourage you to share your thoughts on how the PCC can work towards equity and justice:

Partnering with Communities

The PCC ACORN Program is actively working to partner with organizations and groups representing communities disproportionately affected by climate change and environmental degradation. Learn more about ACORN or start a project with us by emailing our organizers at pccacorn@uw.edu.

GCeCS Capstone Projects bring graduate students and project partners into communities, including those with differing beliefs and those disproportionately impacted by climate change. Student reflections on their capstone experiences are posted to the PCC News & Blog.
