I am a final-year PhD candidate and a PCC Graubard Fellow at the Center for International Trade in Forest Products lab. My research focuses on estimating the environmental impacts associated with treating mass timber waste in the United States through different end-of-life treatments, such as reuse, recycling, incineration, or landfilling. Through this work, I aim to demonstrate the climate benefits of incorporating mass timber into a circular economy by reusing or recycling it instead of disposing of it. I also aim to demonstrate the environmental advantages of replacing conventional high-carbon building materials such as concrete with sustainably-sourced mass timber and other wood products, which have lower carbon footprints and store carbon long-term in the built environment.
