Current Research in Climate Change
Course Details
Course Description
PCC will offer a 2-credit in-person graduate research seminar during Autumn quarter 2021 focused on the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Working Group I (WGI) The Physical Science Basis, which is due to be released in July 2021. This discussion-based seminar (ATM S/ESS/OCN 586) will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:50 in ATG 310 (Tentative). Each week will focus on a different chapter, covering 10 out of the 12 IPCC AR6 WGI chapters during the quarter. Students will be responsible for leading the discussion of one of the ten chapters, likely in groups of 2-3 students. We will invite a local expert on that chapter to join the discussion, answer questions, and provide additional insight. The main learning goal is to become familiar with the majority of the IPCC AR6 WGI report to better understand how one’s own research connects with other sub-disciplines and the big-picture of climate change and to better prepare students to speak broadly about climate change in both professional and community-outreach settings.
