I am a Professor in the Department of Biology, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, and a Burke Museum Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the University of Washington. My research focuses on the early evolution and ecology of mammals and the factors that drove these patterns in deep time, such as the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction event, plate tectonics, and climate change. I do field research in Montana, Colombia, Bolivia, India, Ethiopia, and Spain. I am also the Director of the DIG Field School, a professional development and outreach program for K-12 STEM teachers and their classrooms.
