About

The Program on Climate Change Undergraduate Cohort (UCo) is an undergraduate community and Registered Student Organization (RSO) that serves the undergraduate population interested in advancing climate science. With mentorship from P-GraSC and the PCC community, members and student leaders mend UCo to fulfill the group’s passions, interests, and goals each academic year. By participating in UCo, undergraduates from across the UW are able to connect with professional development resources, experts in the field of climate science, and fellow undergrads interested in climate science, helping strengthen and embolden the next generation of climate scientists at the UW.

Our 2024-2025 Mission

This year we strive to further build an interpersonal community of students and direct our events around the interest of our members. We will continue to uphold our tradition of student networking and professional development, this year with events focused on internships and campus resources. We plan to host casual social events to engage with our student community and branch out by partnering with other environmental RSOs. We strive to work alongside and serve our greater Seattle community by working on environmental service projects. Finally, we want to pursue peer education events including paper and current event discussions.

Background

As youth engagement in the movement against climate change has grown, it has become increasingly important to connect and engage the multitudes of undergraduates at the UW that are invested in climate science. The PCC Undergraduate Cohort (UCo) was announced 3 years ago with the goal of providing climate-minded undergrads the opportunity to receive interdisciplinary mentorship, professional development, and connection, while increasing undergraduate engagement in the PCC community. Since then, through a partnership between undergrad and graduate student leaders, the UCo has been quite successful in that goal, providing hundreds of undergrads the chance to engage with climate science through quarterly workshops, meet-and-greets, and social events. To ensure that it can continue to facilitate this growth, UCo has become an official UW Registered Student Organization, providing it new access to a variety of resources for event planning and outreach. UCo is excited to make the most of these resources throughout the next year!
