Welcome from LuAnne Thompson, PCC Interim Director
Greetings, PCC community! I have taken the reigns as Interim Program on Climate Change Director while Becky Alexander takes a well deserved sabbatical. She has been an extraordinary leader for the last three years, and will return in September of 2023. Becky and Miriam have set us up for an exciting year. We enjoyed the Walker Ames visit of Baba Brinkman in November when he performed several brand new raps motivated by the work of scientists at UW on solutions to the climate crisis. Over the last few months the PCC awarded the first of the donor funded Calvin/Graubard graduate fellowships, research accelerator grants, and climate solutions awards. Over winter quarter we will be soliciting ideas for our next Program on Climate Change Summer Institute topic that will take place in September. Feel free to reach out anytime to Miriam or LuAnne with ideas. Then, in Spring I will be organizing the Current Climate Research seminar and teaching the associated capstone course for the climate minor (OCEAN/ATM S/ESS 475/586). My office is Ocean Sciences Building (OCN) 321. Stop by when you are in the building. If you missed Baba Brinkman, keep an eye out for the new youtube videos created for the Baba Brinkman performance and sponsored by the Program on Climate Change and the Center for Health in the Global Environment.
